Hilary Barry

Hilary Barry (born 1969, née Pankhurst) is a TV3 award winning journalist in New Zealand who currently presents the 6 pm 3 News with Mike McRoberts.

Education

Barry completed a BA in Linguistics and a Certificate of Journalism.

Barry attended Queen Margaret College in early life (to age 18), and was head Head Girl in her final year.

Early career

Barry (then Pankhurst) began her career as radio reporter for radio station 89.3 TODAY FM (now More FM Wairarapa). She became a TV3 news reporter in Christchurch in 1993 then moved to Auckland to work as a reporter on 3 News. She read the morning news on radio station More FM and participated in the morning shows for 10 years.

Recent career

Barry presented the weekend edition of 3 News for six years, before being promoted to presenting the weeknight 3 News. Former regular anchors John Campbell and Carol Hirschfeld moved on to respectively present and produce the 7 pm current affairs show, Campbell Live, in March 2005.[1]

In 2006 Qantas Television Awards she was voted Favourite New Zealand Female Personality.

On 9 February 2009, Barry became news anchor on the RadioLIVE breakfast show hosted by Marcus Lush.[2]

Barry won the Best News or Current Affair Presenter award at the 2011 Aotearoa Film and Television Awards. [3]

Personal life

She is married and has two sons.[4]
